Star Retail Pharmacy team: Q&A with Territory Manager, Carl Buet

Next up in our Star Retail Pharmacy team Q&As, we grabbed some time with Territory Manager, Carl Buet, to talk business wins and why he feels so at home in the team.

Hi Carl, tell us about your background in pharma.

Previously, I held positions in Retail Management and Wholesale of convenience snacking food, before I was approached to work at a top three national pharmaceutical wholesaler. My role there was far-reaching and gave me a strong understanding of many areas within the sector. In my time in Pharma, I’ve worked with and sold OTC, Generics, Surgicals, PMR Systems, Specials, Healthcare Services and Pharmacy business support resources, to name but a few.

You have a lot of experience within the pharma industry - what prompted your move to Star?

There were a few things that brought Star to my attention: the first was a phone call I received while I was abroad from one of the Star recruitment team, and the subsequent voicemail message. The message outlined that they wanted to discuss an opportunity for a position within a new team in the retail pharmacy arena.

The opportunity sounded exciting and I did a bit of digging for myself, which yielded a lot of positive results. Very soon after I called back to discuss the opportunity and the rest, as they say, is history!

I instantly felt at home, like I had found my fit - even during the recruitment process, particularly striking up a great rapport with the recruiting project manager. When I received the job offer later that day I accepted immediately and it was, and still is, one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.

What is your role within the Star Retail Pharmacy team?

I cover the Midlands and all of Wales in a Territory Manager role, managing sales, training and support to Independents and Multiples across my geographical area. I also hold an informal support role within my team as a mentor and am classed as the super-user for our CRM system - supporting the team in training and technical systems support when they come across issues in their day to day usage of the software.

Now that we’re several months into the launch of the team, what do you feel the main progress has been?

The steep curve of progress has been staggering as a team. We started out with a sole pilot client and a completely new team for our launch in July, and from then we have collectively moved from strength to strength. The passion and determination of every single member of this team is what makes us succeed, and we have outstanding support and leadership here who want this team to be successful. The growth of our portfolio as more and more new clients want to work with us is, I feel, testament to the hard work and dedication that we have collectively given this project, from the boardroom to the front line.
