Stiefel was founded in 1847 by Johann David Stiefel, it began as a company that made candles and household soap. After a discovery by dermatologists that medicated soaps could help with many skin conditions, the focus of the company changed. Now working from Florida, Stiefel has headquarters around the world and their products are sold in 110 countries.
Steifel are now the largest dermatology company in the UK. Their product line includes Oilatum. As well as dermatological products Stiefel also offer educational services, which matches their mission statement of "Choose what you intend to do and do it well."
Oilatum products for dry skin conditions, such as eczema, contains a light liquid paraffin. It works by providing a layer of oil on the surface of the skin to prevent water evaporating from the skins surface. Oilatum products are useful for dry skin conditions, such as eczema and dermatitis, which gets worse when the skin is allowed to dry out.
