SkyePharma is a specialist drug delivery company, developing oral and inhalation products; they partner with a wide variety of companies such as GlaxoSmithKline, Novartis, Sanofif-Aventis, AstraZeneca, Roche and Abbott as well as with a range of smaller, speciality companies. Skyepharma's mission is to deliver clinical benefit for patients by using multiple deliveries technologies to create enhanced versions of existing pharmaceutical products as well as products incorporating new chemical entities.

In Muttenz, Switzerland, Skyepharma operates its own research and development facility, specialising in oral, inhalation and solubilisation drug delivery technologies. In addition, they also have an FDA registered medium volume manufacturing facility near Lyon, France. This facility, in operation since the early 1990s, allows Skyepharma an opportunity to deliver manufacturing services on a contract basis to its customers, whom are welcome to inspect their products in this environment.
