Founded in 1906, Norgine is a speciality pharmaceutical company with an extensive pan-European presence; they are committed to developing products that treat life-threatening illness but also, treatments that improve the quality of live for those suffering from acute and chronic illness.
Dr. Victor Stein founded Norgine in Prague, 1906, as a private company which is still owned by descendants of its founding family. The current chairman, Peter Stein, is a great-nephew of Dr. Victor Stein. Norgine was originally involved in isolating sodium Alginate from seaweed, the best quality of which was sourced from Nordic countries, which gave Norgine its name. In 1919, it was proposed that this substance could be used as an effective laxative, and idea which Norgine pursued; by combining this substance with a gum from the sterculia tree, they developed their first medicinal product Normacol, which is still helping patients today.
Norgine has focused on expanding their pan-European infrastructure, and have strengthened their Research and Development core, which has enabled them to excel in the following areas:
