Biotechnology company MedImmune incorporates Cambridge Antibody Technology, a biopharmaceutical company. They are wholly owned by AstraZeneca plc. CAT, with their early development experience, and MedImmune, bringing mature development experience and state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities, were acquired by AstraZeneca as part of their long-term strategic investment in novel biological therapeutics.
They develop human monoclonal antibody therapeutics, complimenting AstraZeneca's ambitions to develop three technological approaches: small molecules, biologics and vaccines.
Products include Synagis, a monoclonal antibody for infectious disease; Ethyol, a selective cytoprotective agent to reduce some of the toxicities associated with cancer chemotherapy and radiotherapy; and FluMist, a nasal spray flu vaccine for the under 49s and under 2s.
Their product pipeline is concentrated on infectious disease, oncology and immunology. They have formed a number of collaborations and licensing agreements with mutually interested companies such as Avalon Pharmaceuticals, Cerus Corporation, Infinity Pharmaceuticsls, Medarex and VasGene.
