Hospira is the hospital products division of Abbott Laboratories and has been an independent company since 2004. The name, chosen by employees, is derived from the words hospital, spirit, inspire and spero (latin for hope). Since acquiring Mayne Pharma Limited, they have been the world leader in speciality generic injectable pharmaceuticals.

While global headquarters are in Chicago, the head office for Europe, the Middle East and Africa is in the UK.

The company specialises in the development, manufacturing and marketing of generic acute care and oncology injectables, integrated solutions for medication management and infusion therapy. They also provide contract manufacturing services to proprietary pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies for formulation development and the filling and finishing of injectable pharmaceuticals. Customers include hospitals, clinics, long-term care facilities and home healthcare providers.
