Dermapharm provides a range of products for acne and rosacea as well as medicines to counteract the side-effects of other medical treatments. Problematic side-effects can include irritation, dryness and sensitivity to sunlight. Dermapharm's products are made at the Laboratoires Biorga in France and include cleansers, moisturisers, emollients and sun protectors. All are hypo-allergenic and non-comedogenic. The company currently operates in the UK by mail order but will soon have a new website with the facility to order online.

Acne is caused when sebum oil blocks the pores of the skin and as a result bacteria begin to develop. Blackheads and whiteheads begin as microcomedones and become comedones - non-inflamed skin blemishes. Usually these spots release their contents on the surface of the skin and eventually heal. However, sometimes the follicles rupture and inflammatory acne can develop. Rupturing can occur randomly but can also by instigated by picking or touching the skin.

Rosacea is a commonly occurring condition yet relatively little is known about it. It causes a conspicuous red-faced acne-like effect on the facial skin and as a result can be distressing and embarrassing for the patient. Warning signs include redness of the cheeks, nose, chin and forehead; small visible blood vessels; bumps and pimples; and watery or irritated eyes.

Products

The Hyfac plus range is for acneic, oily, sensitive skin and includes an AHA cream, cleanser, gel, syndet bar, exfoliating scrub and shaving foam.
The Apaisax emollient and lip balm is for those undergoing acne treatments which cause drying and irritation.
Hyseke is a sun protection moisturiser.
The Roseliane range has been designed for rosacea patients. It includes a cleanser, cream and tintec emulsion to mask redness and blemishes.
