Founded in 1987 and purchased outright by members of the Board of Directors, Cambridge Laboratories Limited remains an independent, privately owned company. They specialise in developing, registering, marketing and selling products for oncology and diseases of the central nervous system (CNS) into the secondary care sector.

Cambridge Laboratories has worked with many of the major healthcare companies to in-license or acquire products, including; AstraZeneca, Sanofi Aventis, Eli Lilly, Roche and Schering Healthcare.

With their head office in Ireland, they also work internationally with a range of distributors to deliver their products to over 40 countries worldwide. These include Prestick Pharmaceuticals in the USA and Canada; EUSA Pharma in France; UCB Pharma in Spain and Portugal; Chiesi in Italy and Orphan Australia Pty in Australia.

Projects

- Xenazine for the treatment of chorea associated with Huntington's disease. It also has indications for hemiballismus, senile chorea, dystonia and Tourette's syndrome and can be used to control iatrogenic movement disorders like Tardive Dyskinesia. Xenazine depletes the brain's stores of neurotransmitters, including dopamine, serotonin and noradrenaline, altering the transmission of the electric signals that control movement.

- ImmuCyst 81mg is used to treat superficial bladder cancer, which if left untreated can spread to the body's vital organs. It is administered directly into the bladder, through a catheter. Here, it stimulates an immune response in the tumour site, destroying the cancerous cells.

- Gelclair is used to treat the oral mucositis (a severe form of oral ulceration) frequently suffered by chemotherapy patients. It forms a protective film over the sore areas, providing pain relief.

- Pentagastrin, a diagnostic test for gastric acid secretion
- Procarbazine for Hodgkin's disease
- The Protirelin diagnostic test for assessing thyroid function
- Testosterone for use in advanced mammary carcinoma in women and androgen deficiency in men
- Vitamin E suspension to treat deficiency
