As of October 2007 Cambridge Antibody Technology (or CAT), a biopharmaceutical company, was incorporated by MedImmune, a biotechnology company wholly owned by AstraZeneca plc. CAT, with their early development experience, and MedImmune, bringing mature development experience and state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities, were acquired by AstraZeneca as part of their long-term strategic investment in novel biological therapeutics.
Now known as MedImmune, the company are still based near Cambridge. They develop human monoclonal antibody therapeutics, complimenting AstraZeneca's ambitions to develop three technological approaches: small molecules, biologics and vaccines.
Abbott's Humira, used in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, was the first CAT-derived antibody to be approved for marketing and the first product originating from the UK biotechnology industry to achieve blockbuster status, with US sales of over $2 billion. This product is now marketed in more than 50 different countries. Several more of their human monoclonal antibodies have been licensed and are at various stages of clinical trial with partners such as Abbott and Wyeth. These include:

CAM-3001
ABT-874
