Over a decade ago, Star was Lucy and Tim, operating from Tim's living room in High Wycombe. Today, Star has one of the largest teams in its sector - and it's still growing - operating from offices in Bath, Maidenhead and Manchester, with a network of affiliates and trusted suppliers nationwide. What started as a permanent recruitment provider for the pharma industry is now six influential business units providing an array of different resourcing solutions, across the pharma, medical devices and technology, healthcare communications and clinical research sectors. We're also members of The Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC), The Association of Recruitment Consultancies (ARC), the ABPI, the ABHI, Investors in People, Safecontractor and Wellards.
Persistent organic growth, particularly throughout turbulent economic times, involves a little luck admittedly, but mostly it's the consequence of hard work, skill, and innovation. Lucy and Tim - very successful, inspirational and dynamic people - have built an empire of accomplished individuals who personify Star's vision - to 'Live The Dream,' our mission - to be exceptional - and Star behaviours.

They also have a natural aptitude for creative thinking, which they use to overcome the issues that leave others stumped. Every person on the team is motivated to succeed for the good of everyone, but also by a personal disinclination to fail their own extremely high standards.
The result is an extraordinary work environment (as yet no-one's been able to capture what it is that makes Star such a special place to work), and a team of people with the intelligence and energy to do a great job. And we're not the only people who think so...The Great Place to Work® Institute's UK Best Workplaces Programme 2012 has ranked Star as the 3rd best small company to work for! Thorough assessment concluded that our employees trust their management, take pride in what they do and enjoy working with each other - the foundations of a great and successful workplace
We were also shortlisted for two Special Categories awards; this means that we were amongst the 6 highest performers across all categories - small, medium and large. The 'Most Trusted Leadership Excellence' award recognises organisations that can show leaders' efforts to create a high trust culture where words are followed up with actions. The 'Health and Wellbeing Excellence' award commends companies that demonstrate a genuine sense of caring for their employees' health and wellbeing. In particular, it looks at the support and benefits they make to promote a healthy lifestyle while providing and actively encouraging a good work-life balance. Find out more.
The process has given us insight that will help us achieve 'Gold' status at our next 'Investors in People' review; last time, our assessor commended the excellent coaching our employees receive from inspiring role models and the way we've maintained the unique culture we value so much despite fast and continued growth. We rank within the top 3% highest performers of all participating organisations and plan to meet our target in the next 18 months.
We all know how well we work together, but this recognition helps us show other people how Star employees give their personal best and work together as a team in an environment of trust; our solid framework enables us to produce the outcomes we promise our clients. And our own market agrees; Star's been one of the top 3 most preferred recruitment agencies for the past 5 years, and one of the top 3 most preferred contract sales organisations for the past 2 years, as voted for by respondents to Pharmafield magazine's 'Company Perception, Motivation and Satisfaction Survey.' We're really quite proud of all that, but we'll never stop striving to be better.
